The president Luis Abinader This Sunday morning he supervised the dams of Hatillo, Monción, Taveras and Corner to verify the levels of its reservoirs, given the forecasts that the rains from Hurricane Melissa, category four, would affect the northern region of the country starting this Monday.
During the tour, the president highlighted the management given by the authorities to the dams during the rains, which he said avoided situations that got out of control in the South of the country.
“We came to see the preparationswho have done quite well and complied with the protocol, from what we have seen that no prey has had greater difficulties,” he said.

He indicated that both the Taveras and Rincón dams have had no news and added that the highest levels of concern are presented by the Hatillo dam, which could spill if it continues to fill and would affect the Under Yuna “so we are taking precautionary measures.”
He insisted that in Under Yuna they take the precautions of place in Arenoso, Villa Rivas and other surrounding communities.
- “We have complied with the protocol for electricity generation that we have lowered the levels of the dams and we do not have the difficulties that we had in other times,” the president highlighted during his visit.
The president specified that each dam has a management protocol and that the Monción dam is in the elevation 279.18almost at its discharge level, which has not occurred because it is in the process of generating electricity and in relation to the San Juan dam, explained that its discharge is low and its basin is at manageable levels and, even if the rains left by Melissa persist in the southwest of the country, there is no alarm in that regard.
President Abinader said that the Monte Grande dam is rising and is fulfilling its function, avoiding flooding that affect agriculture and endanger the lives of those who live in the area of influence of the Yaque del Sur.
The governor announced that in the coming days he will supervise the dams in the South and insisted that all precautions are taken in the provinces of Peravia, San Cristóbal and San José de Ocoa.
