The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, said this Sunday (26) that Brazil has good reasons to believe in dialogue with the United States (USA).
In a post on social media, Alckmin commented on the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump, of the United States, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“The meeting between President @LulaOficial and President @realDonaldTrump, today, in Malaysia, proves that we have good reasons to believe in dialogue. It was another step for Brazil and the USA to further strengthen their friendship ties. And it is further evidence of the commitment of President Lula’s government to the Brazilian people”, he declared.
During the meeting with Trump, Lula called for the revocation of the North American tariff on Brazilian exports.
After the meeting, North American diplomacy was authorized by Trump to begin negotiations with the Brazilian government.
In July this year, Trump announced a 50% tariff on all Brazilian products that are exported to the United States. Subsequently, ministers from the Brazilian government and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) were also the target of the revocation of travel visas and other sanctions by the North American administration.
