Humanitarian corridor will be activated for families affected by rains in Murindó, Antioquia

Because of the palisade on the Murindó River, Urabá, Antioquia, which left 492 families affected, 310 of them incommunicado, will activate a humanitarian corridor to meet their health and food needs. The removal of the three kilometers of fence that obstructs the navigability of the tributary could take up to a month.

The director of the Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (Dagran), Jaime Gómez Zapata, confirmed that the humanitarian aid will be transported by air. What’s more, there will be four machines that will be distributed on each side of the palisade for cleaning and removal of the material.

For this winter emergency, there are also 55 families affected and 127 affected by flooding in the villages of Bartolo and Legada. Most of the communities are transported by river, which has prevented them from moving to carry out their agricultural work that is their livelihood.

According to the Dagran, Murindó remains in red alert due to the probability of landslides in unstable and high mountain areas. In addition, due to sudden flooding in rivers and streams.

Another collapse?

Heavy rains caused a sudden increase that one of the lanes of the Medellin-Bogotá highway broke off near San Luis, in eastern Antioquia, which keeps the road closed in both lanes.

The affected section is on the Santuario-Caño Alegre road, at kilometer 65. According to the National Institute of Roads (Invías), there is still no estimated opening time, since pDue to the amount of material that fell on the sector, the work of removing soil, rocks and mud has been difficult.

The mayor of San Luis, Henry Suárez Jiménez, confirmed that the bank was lost by 50% so the collapse is difficult to remove. He said the heavy downpour lasted for two hours, making the ground unstable.
