The perpetrators initially demanded payment of 5,000 euros, of which they managed to receive 3,000 euros. Later, they tried to make a second demand for the same value. The alert was generated through the German Embassy in Colombia, which informed officials of the Gaula Metropolitano of the situation.

Due to the above, a prosecutor from the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) charged them with kidnapping for ransom and qualified theft, both aggravated behaviors, in addition to the use of minors to commit crimes. The defendants did not accept the charges.
