President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo yesterday unveiled her book Diary of a historical transitiona series of notes with anecdotes, teachings and memories of the three months of tour he made with former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) before assuming the first office.

Among the fragments of dialogue he had with López Obrador, it stands out that when they talked about the relationship he had with the Americans Donald Trump and Joe Biden – in their respective presidencies –, in the context of the presidential elections in that country, he suggested that he always keep the strength of Mexico in mind. “I know you,” he told me, “and I know that you will never bow your head.”

Today at the head of the country, wrote the head of the federal Executive, “we have demonstrated it with firmness, dignity and without subordinations; Mexico is respected.”

Sheinbaum Pardo remembers that on Saturday, November 28, 2024, when having breakfast together, he insisted to the then Mexican president about the relationship with the United States and “he answered me: just always remember your principles and don’t fight. There won’t be any problems.”

The President states that the 232-page and seven-chapter text is a recognition of López Obrador, who “knew how to lead the course of a people determined to change their destiny.”

This is the diary “of one of the most extraordinary moments that intertwine my life with the history of our country, to which I have decided to devote myself,” he says.

“It is an honor to serve my people and my country. Our political adversaries and the oligarchy would like me to distance myself from Andrés Manuel López Obrador, not to call him president. But that separation will not happen and I have reasons for it.

“Because I respect someone who has dedicated his life to the transformation of our country; because I admire him with conviction, because the people to whom I am indebted legitimately and genuinely love AMLO and, finally, because recognizing others magnifies the human being.”

The head of the Executive says that when she shared with the president the 100-point document that she presented on October 1, as well as the speech she gave at her inauguration before Congress, he responded: “Don’t stop going out every week. Being in CDMX and in the National Palace you feel the pressure. The coverage of the media that say they are national is from the metropolitan area; on the other hand, when you go out to the states with the people it is like a balm You fill yourself with energy and spirit for the whole week…”

As the first woman to head the government of Mexico, she highlights that “the privilege of serving the people is the most beautiful thing there can be. The responsibility is immense; the dedication is total. Nothing can get in the way of the transformation or the right of women to a just life. My life and my history are involved in it.”
