Members of the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD) deployed a evacuation operation and attendance to safeguard the lives of 98 people who were in the Saona IslandLa Altagracia province, as a preventive measure against the effects of the Tropical Storm Melissawhich has generated heavy rainfall and high waves on the East and South coasts of the country.
It is about residents and workers in the tourist areawho requested help from the authorities to be transferred to a safe port, at a time when the province is under yellow alert.
The evacuees were safely transported to the Port of Bayahibein the aforementioned province, where they received attendance of the relief agenciesstates a press release.

In the operation, coordinated by the Ministry of Defensethe Navy activated his emergency protocolmobilizing surface naval units and specialized rescue personnel.
The Vice Admiral of the Armanda, Vice Admiral Juan Bienvenido Crisóstomo Martínezhighlighted the importance of coordination between naval commandosthe Eastern naval zone, the Port Captaincy and the Dominican Maritime Authority to ensure the success of the operation.

On his side, the Ministry of Defense reaffirmed his commitment with the protection of lifethe integrity and well-being of citizens, keeping its air, naval and land resources deployed to guarantee immediate response in any situation derived from the effects of the Storm Melissa.
