Ministry of Education installs commission to evaluate the "impact" of schoolwork

The Ministry of Education installed a commission this week to evaluate the impact of schoolwork.

The organization reported in a publication on Instagram that the initiative seeks to “reduce the stress and workload that, in many cases, homework generates for families and students” and design “public policies with a scientific basis and the greatest possible consensus.”

He also assured that rectors, public and private institutions, students from the Bolivarian Student Organization, family movements and teachers participate in the commission.

“The plan includes consult directly with families and classroom teachers to transform tasks into a more effective and less stressful tool,” the ministry added.

In September, the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, said that schoolwork generates violence in the family and stated that he has evaluated eliminating it.

“I have doubts about the chores. I think that the chores generate a lot of family conflict. Because the father and mother, who are working all day, arrive at night without always having the tools. “If it is difficult for a teacher, imagine a father and mother who have never reflected on these issues, and it generates a lot of family violence,” the official indicated.

He added that his proposal does not seek hasty decisions, but rather a deep “analysis” that includes participation.

“I don’t want to do it crazy, I want us to reflect on it, “Let’s make a study group on this topic, let’s consult with the family movement and the classroom teachers,” he said.

Rodríguez assured that Studies consulted show that schoolwork can trigger shouting, punishment and abuse, and considered it necessary to look for alternatives that maintain communication between school and home without generating conflicts.

“There are those who say: ‘That’s it, Héctor, because he is a connector between the school and the representative.’ “Well, let’s look for other alternatives,” he added.
