The release of the Colombians, JEP assures, confirms that their deprivation of liberty lacked legal basis and, in addition, violated fundamental rights, including the right to personal liberty, due process and contact with their families.
In the opinion of the organization, the fact that the release was possible only after diplomatic efforts reinforces the arbitrary nature of the detentions.
The released Colombians, whose names were not disclosed by the authorities, were delivered to the Pedro María Ureña municipality (Táchira state) and will be transferred “to their places of destination or origin, where they will receive the proper care routes,” reported Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio.
