The US will send its most modern aircraft carrier to the Caribbean to combat drug cartels

The chief spokesman for the United States Department of War, Sean Parnell, announced this Friday the 24th that the deployment of the Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier Strike Group to the Caribbean Sea was ordered, with the aim of contributing to the fight against drug trafficking cartels that President Donald Trump deployed in international waters since mid-August.

In a statementreleased by Parnell, it was indicated that the presence of the USS Gerald R. Ford – the largest and most advanced aircraft carrier of the US Navy – will reinforce the troops deployed in the Caribbean and increase the capacity to “detect, monitor and neutralize illicit actors and activities that put the security and prosperity of the US territory and the stability of the Western Hemisphere at risk.”

The operations – under the supervision of the Southern Command – will be aimed at interrupting narcotics trafficking. The deployment, the War Department insisted, complies with Trump’s guidelines “to dismantle transnational criminal organizations and counter narcoterrorism.”
