American businessmen are being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for their participation in fuel smuggling and the Department of Justice of the neighboring country is also being investigated, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo revealed yesterday.
He mentioned that some of the investigation files in Mexico “have already been presented to the judge to have arrest warrants; (about) others the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic will have to report.”
In her usual press conference, the president highlighted that “there are American businessmen in the investigation files, because it cannot be explained that fuel comes from the United States to Mexico and that it enters illegally, which is already much less, based on the investigation that was carried out, the arrests that have been made and the greater surveillance that customs has in place.”
Furthermore, he maintained, “we see it in the increase in direct gasoline sales from Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) or even from the companies themselves that legally import the fuel.”
He stressed that the smuggling of this product “has decreased significantly, but I repeat, it could not be explained how illegal fuel entered illegally, or still enters in smaller proportions, and that it did not have someone on the other side.”

When asked about the Reuters special report that the company Ikon Midstream, based in Houston, has played a key role in operations for the company Intanza, based in Monterrey, and believed to be a front for the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel (CJNG), to smuggle fuel into Mexico, he noted that “there was a link,” but said he did not know if the investigation folders are related to that case.
But “the Prosecutor’s Office does its own investigations,” he said.

The President also confirmed that the security strategy “is giving results” and the objective is to continue with the four axes: attention to the causes, so there will be more activities for young people, such as high-performance community centers.
Likewise, they will continue to strengthen and consolidate the National Guard; “intelligence and investigation”, as well as coordination.
