The Dominican Republic attracts more and more tourists interested in realizing medical procedures in the country thanks to the quality of its specialists, the technologies implemented by the health centers private services and the competitive prices it offers: some 300,000 foreigners come looking for these services every year.
Only the dentistry –one of the services most in demand by tourists– mobilized 227,223 patients foreigners at the end of 2024, for an increase of 26.88% in relation to patients who were treated with Dominican specialists in 2022.
“That is due to the qualityto the warmth, to the good service. But above all, to dedicate ourselves to promoting this product even despite the adversities,” highlighted the president of the Dominican College of Dentists, Virginia Laureanoby participating this Thursday in the seventh International Congress of Health Tourism and Wellbeing.

For the doctor, the figures reflect an example that the health centers who want to focus on medical tourism they can do it and succeed.
- The president of the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS),Alejandro Cambiasowho recognizes that the demand for medical tourism represents a sustained growthbut also the challenge that more and more dental centers – and other specialties that are equally in demand by tourists, such as plastic surgery – continue to achieve the necessary certifications and accreditations to comply with all international standards.
“We have to continue betting on (being) an increasingly competitive destination and increasingly safer“he emphasized when asked.
International promotion
The vice president of the ADTS, Amalia Reyesemphasized that greater efforts are required to promote the Dominican Republic as what it already is: the main destination of health tourism in it Caribbean and the second reference destination in Latin America.
“Dominican Republic is ready to continue advancing, we just need this synergy between tourism and health to continue strengthening to organize a health tourism that generates trust and strengthens the reputation of our destination,” he said.
