Trujillo: Cable car proposal would be a “Chinese tale”

Trujillo: Cable car proposal would be a “Chinese tale”

On July 18, the councilor of the Provincial Municipality of Trujillo (MPT) Giancarlo Toribio Castro reported that Son Yang (as written in the document), ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Peru, had sent him a letter in which he expressed his interest in the implementation of a cable car in Trujillo. This, as a solution to the city’s chaotic traffic.

However, three months after these statements made by the councilor, the manager of Trujillo Metropolitan Transport (TMT), Víctor del Carpio Sedano, has revealed that the respective queries about the originality of the letter have been made to officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the Chinese embassy in Peru, and, unofficially, they have announced that they do not recognize the document.

LETTER ROUTE

Faced with this situation, Giancarlo Toribio, who is president of the Transport Commission of the MPT Council, assures that he has been forced to show images and specify dates to try to clarify this confusing situation that leaves him in a very bad position and even borders on a serious mess that could even affect the highest levels of the Government.

The councilor indicates that the letter from the embassy of the People’s Republic of China has an issuance date of July 15, 2025. Two days later, on July 17, the manager of TMT, Víctor del Carpio, through a WhatsApp conversation, forwarded said letter signed by Son Yang in PDF format.

“What’s more, in the message (via WhatsApp) he tells me that Dr. Mario, I understand the mayor, shared the information of this communication (letter from the Chinese embassy) and asked me to hold a meeting. I don’t understand how he now comes out to say that he didn’t give me anything, that I made up that letter. I have had that WhatsApp conversation with the TMT manager notarized and if it is not rectified what “He said I will take legal action,” Giancarlo Toribio emphasized.

DOES NOT MATCH

Giancarlo Toribio maintains that since he has come out to show evidence of the WhatsApp conversation with Víctor del Carpio, he has changed his version of the events. “Now he says that he did send me the letter, but it was after I went out to the local and national media to testify about the cable car.

“But we must remember that in the newspaper Correo the publication came out on July 20, and in Panamericana nationwide on July 24. The letter is dated July 15 and he (Víctor del Carpio) gave it to me on July 17, that is, the man has traveled in time,” he questioned.

CHAT WAR

Asked about the issue, Víctor del Carpio was firm in his position by confirming that it was not he who passed the alleged letter from the Chinese ambassador to Giancarlo Toribio.

“I have the WhatsApp chats and I am also going to notarize them. The councilor will have to say who gave him that document, because I myself have communicated this to the Chinese embassy and the International Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, unofficially, they have told me that they do not recognize it,” revealed.

The official assured that this issue will be investigated. “The councilor lied to the Municipal Council and who they have defamed is me. Now he is desperate sending emissaries to want to talk to me,” Víctor del Carpio emphasized.

The TMT manager was in Lima yesterday and said that upon his return he will show all the documentation he has to defend his version of the events.
