The NGO Médicos Unidos reported that Pedro Fernández, coordinator of this organization in the state of Mérida, was charged with instigating hatred and terrorism.
Last Monday, October 20, urologist Fernández was detained in his office, located at the Marcial Ríos Clinical Center, by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin).
Jetsy Duque, wife of Pedro Fernández, said that she does not know the reasons for the doctor’s arrest and urged the authorities “to protect his rights.” In addition, he reported that the urologist is a bariatric patient who needs “strict nutrition and medications and supplements.”
Pedro Fernández’s vehicle was also detained. Fernández was taken to the Sebin headquarters in the La Mara urbanization in Mérida.
Médicos Unidos indicated that Pedro Fernández is expected to be transferred to another detention site; However, they do not have precise information, they believe it will be to Caracas.
Pedro Fernández is also a professor at the University of Los Andes (ULA) and director of the Mérida College of Physicians.

The Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV) condemned the arbitrary detention of urologist Pedro Fernández and demanded his full release. Likewise, they asked for guarantees for their life, personal safety and physical integrity.
