University of Chile and Lanus They tied this Thursday 2-2 in the first leg of the semifinals of the South American Cup which had an unexpected ending, because before the first half hour the Argentine team was winning with a double from Rodrigo Castillo and in the 99th minute they allowed the tie. The decisive second leg match will be played next Thursday at the Ciudad de Lanús stadium, with a favorable forecast for both rivals.
Manuel Pellegrino’s team demonstrated from the first minute the virtues that have led them to go nine games without losing, with eight wins and one draw. Although the ball was the property of the U of Chile, today it did not find a fluid game to break the maroon lock. They moved the ball to the sides, they tried to progress towards Nico Guerra’s position, inserted between the Argentine centre-backs, but they lacked depth and, above all, aim.
Lanús paved its way to victory with two blows from number 19 Rodrigo Castillo in just five minutes of interval, from minute 24 to 29. Defenders Fabián Hormazábal and Franco Calderón missed an easy pass in their zone and Castillo stole the ball, controlled it, looked up, saw Fabián Castellón very advanced, and filtered the ball with a Vaseline. Another loss five minutes later in the attacking zone triggered a counterattack with a great play on the wing by Salvio, who stepped on the ball in the heart of the small area, where Castillo only had to push.
