Caixa Econômica Federal began, this Thursday (23), the stage of adhesion of cooking gas (LPG) resellers to the new Gás do Povo program, an initiative by the federal government that will guarantee free refilling of cylinders for low-income families. Around 60 thousand companies across the country can register to participate in the program.
Accreditation is voluntary and can be done via the website gasdopovo.caixa.gov.br. To participate, the company must be authorized by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) and in good standing with the Federal Revenue Service.
Caixa will be responsible for operating the program, including adhering to resellers and distributing the benefit to families selected by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS). Payment will be made electronically, at the time of purchase, directly at authorized resellers – without intermediaries.

Operation and rules
Accredited resellers must remain in the program for at least three months and are prohibited from charging additional fees. Assistance must be provided equally to all beneficiary families.
The management and monitoring of participating resellers will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), which works together with the Ministry of Finance in defining regionalized reference prices for cooking gas.
Replacement of Gas Aid
Launched in September, People’s Gas will gradually replace Gas Aidcreated in 2021, with the aim of expanding access to cooking gas and ensuring dignity and food security for the most vulnerable families. The program is expected to reach around 50 million people across the country.
Families registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico), with income per capita (per person) of up to half the minimum wage, and whose registration has been updated in the last 24 months. The granting of the benefit will depend on the budget and financial availability of the program.
