An unfortunate traffic accident with fatal consequences occurred this afternoon, Thursday, October 23, Omar Cruz, at kilometer 614 of the Panamericana Sur highway, near the sector called La Caleta de Chala.

According to the police report, The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m.when a strong explosion was reported that alerted residents and drivers passing through the area.

Immediately, police personnel went to the scene of the incident, verifying that the explosion was the product of a collision between a tanker truck carrying fuel and another cargo vehicle.
The impact caused a fuel spill that spread through the ravine, generating a large fire which consumed both vehicles.

The flames, visible from several kilometers away, were controlled after intense efforts by firefighters, who faced serious difficulties due to the amount of flammable material. The two trucks were completely burned.while cooling and debris removal work is carried out in the area.

During preliminary investigations, police officers found a burned body inside one of the damaged vehicles. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined and another deceased person has not been ruled out.. The authorities have begun investigations to clarify the causes of the accident and establish the corresponding responsibilities. Meanwhile, vehicle traffic through the area is restricted.
