Directed by José Varón, the film delves into the player’s humble origins in Buenaventura, his meteoric rise in professional soccer and his time with international teams such as Real Madrid, Naples, América de Cali, Santa Fe, Pamieras and Corinthianswhere he left an indelible mark. However, beyond his achievements, the film seeks to explore the complexities of his character and the cultural impact of his figure on Colombian society.

“The objective is not only to remember the footballer, but to understand the man”said Varón during the official presentation of the documentary. To do this, “El Coloso” combines unpublished interviews, archival material and testimonies from family members, teammates on the field and sports journalists who accompanied Rincón throughout his career.

Freddy Rinconnicknamed “The Colossus of Buenaventura”was one of the great symbols of Colombian football in the nineties. With his imposing physique, leadership and talent, he was a key player in the national team and the protagonist of one of the most remembered moments in the country’s sports history: the tying goal against Germany in the World Cup in Italy ’90, which ushered in a new era for Colombian football.

The documentary also addresses the most difficult aspects of his life: his off-court challenges, the judicial episodes that marked his career, and the tragic traffic accident in 2022 that cost him his life.
