Querétaro, Qro. Businesses related to personal grooming, retail trade and restaurants have increased their presence the most in the state, according to the most recent Economic Censuses (EC) (2019 and 2024).
In particular, hairdressers, salons and beauty clinics are the type of activity that added the most economic units between one period and the next, registering an average annual growth rate of 8% in Querétaro, according to the 2024 CE, which provides data for 2023, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
This line of business is the one that incorporated the most units between 2018 and 2023, registering a difference of 1,693 businesses. This same branch was the seventh with the highest increase in personnel, adding 2,701 additional workers and an average annual growth rate of 7.8 percent.
The second economic activity with the greatest increase in units is retail trade in grocery, grocery and miscellaneous stores (with 1,673 more units), which registered an average annual growth rate of 4.5% between the reference years. This line was the third with the highest increase in personnel (+5,132), presenting a growth rate of 7.3 percent.
The list of the 10 activities with the greatest increase in economic units in Querétaro continues with restaurants that prepare snacks (+743 units) which was placed in third place, registering an average annual growth rate of 5.9 percent.
In fourth place was the retail trade of clothing, except for babies and lingerie, (+653), which represented a growth rate of 4.8%; In the fifth step, retail trade dedicated to the sale of gifts (+511), among the top 10 is the sector with the highest average annual growth rate, of 10.4 percent.
Coffee shops, soda fountains, ice shops, soft drinks shops and similar establishments are the sixth with the highest increase in economic units between 2018 and 2023 (+442) and presented an average annual growth rate of 5.2% between the reference years.
Greengrocers, the retail trade of fresh fruits and vegetables, occupy seventh place (+395) and present a rate of 5.1%; in eighth place, taco and cake restaurants (+388), with a rate of 3.4%; in ninth place, restaurants with a la carte food preparation service or fast food (+369), with a rate of 5.3%; and, in tenth, the retail trade of cleaning supplies (+345) and a rate of 9.6 percent.
The statistics institute also identified the economic activities that increased their employed personnel the most between the last two censuses, the first position is occupied by businesses dedicated to the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment and their parts for motor vehicles, which added 6,385 employees between those years (2018 and 2023) and achieved an average annual growth rate of 14.7 percent.
Regarding the economic contribution, the activity that had the greatest increase in the gross census value added is the manufacturing of electrical and electronic equipment and its parts for motor vehicles, between 2018 and 2023 it registered an average annual growth rate of 21 percent.
The 2024 CE identified 97,696 economic units operating in Querétaro in 2023, achieving an average annual growth rate of 3.8% in the previous five years (2018 to 2023).
