The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported this Thursday that the Public Ministry (MP) requested an order of apprehension against two police officers for alleged crimes of cruel treatment, arbitrary act and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
The action was promoted by the 127th Prosecutor’s Office with jurisdiction in human rights, after receiving complaints about the abuse of authority committed by those involved.
Investiture abuse and physical assault
According to the official publication made on the MP’s Instagram account (@mpublicove), the officials had beaten a citizen and deprived him of his freedom without legal justification.
The Public Ministry described the incident as an abuse of office, in which fundamental rights were violated.
The complaint was processed by the 127AMC Human Rights Prosecutor, who presented the formal request for arrest before the competent court.
Charged crimes
The charges requested by the Public Ministry include:
- cruel treatment
- arbitrary act
- Illegal deprivation of liberty
These crimes are contemplated in the Venezuelan legal framework as serious violations of human rights, especially when they are committed by public officials in the exercise of their functions.
