What is biometric CURP?

It is a advanced version of the traditional CURP that we already know. In addition to the 18 alphanumeric characters it contains and personal data (name, sex, place of birth and nationality), the new record includes biometric information such as fingerprints and iris scans, as well as a full-face photograph and electronic signature.

The new document came into force on July 17. As stipulated in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), a period of 90 calendar days was granted for both public and private institutions to take the necessary measures to adopt it. That date was this October 16th.

The DOF also specifies that the authorities of the three levels of government and individuals who fail to comply with the obligations provided for in Article 91 Bis of this law, after being warned by the repeated non-compliance, will be sanctioned with fines from 10,000 to 20,000 times the daily value of the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), that is, between 1.13 and 2.26 million pesos.
