Public calamity declared in Barrancabermeja due to winter emergency

More than 500 affected families have been assisted by the Mayor’s Office, also thanks to citizen support through the donation campaign.

Given the emergency caused by the heavy rains of the second winter season, the mayor Jonathan Vasquez issued the Decree 584 of 2025through which declares public calamity in the district of Barrancabermeja.

The measure seeks strengthen the District’s response capacitywhich will allow the delivery of food and non-food aid, rehabilitation elements for those affected and the execution mitigation works that reduce the risk in the impacted areas.

Within the framework of this declaration, a extraordinary session of the District Disaster Risk Management Councilwhere the Specific Action Planwhich will guide humanitarian and technical interventions. “This plan includes assistance to affected families, logistical and operational strengthening, acquisition of equipment for emergency response and recovery of affected infrastructure,” reads the statement from the Mayor’s Office.

The director of Disaster Risk Management, Doralba Stopexplained that this measure will allow for more effective progress in the recovery of the communities.

“All members of the District Risk Management Committee met to review and support the specific action plan that will allow us to provide solutions to the affected families and mitigate the risks that these rains have generated,” said the official.

For its part, Ricardo Herreradirector of Development Planning and Territorial Ordering, indicated that the plan contemplates several lines of intervention that will be executed in an articulated manner between the operational and administrative entities of the District.

Until now, more than 500 families from urban and rural areas have been attended to by the Mayor’s Office, also thanks to citizen support through the donation campaign “Barrancabermeja resilient: for the affected families”.

Donations continue this Wednesday October 22 in the Square of the Popular Shopping Center (CPC)of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
