Barrio Arpí Polyclinic with optimal functioning
The polyclinic that CAMCEL opened a little over 2 years ago in Barrio Arpí in the city of Melo has exceeded the expectations generated at the time of its opening.
This decentralized care system that the Medical Cooperative began in one of the areas of the departmental capital where most users live, is working very well.
CAMCEL’s presence in the neighborhood has been consolidated to the point that not only residents are served there, but also members who live in other areas and even in rural areas.
“A CAMCEL Decentralized Family Medicine Care Polyclinic has been operating since July 31, 2023. We work from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Since that beginning we have had a very good receptivity from the people of the Arpí neighborhood, from the people from the northern area, but we also receive many people who come from the campaign and even from other areas” reported Dr. Marcia Costa.
In the beginning, this decentralized care space had an Administrative officer who was in charge of coordinating consultations with other specialists and a Nurse. “In 2024, a Pediatrician will be added who will attend twice a month: on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. Also since 2024, the polyclinic has a Family Medicine Resident. This year she already has consultations in parallel with me, with patients who she follows up with,” she explained.
“The Chair of Family Medicine granted me the role of Team Tutor and thanks to them we can count on the entire Faculty part, we are part of Ateneos. On November 13 it is our turn from Cerro Largo together with Soriano to carry out the Ateneo of Family Medicine” He told EL PROFESIONAL Diario.

Last Friday, October 10, Dr. Costa attended the COCEMI Round, an activity that takes place annually at the ANTEL Arena under the organization of FEMI. “All the FEPREMI mutual societies from the interior plus those from Montevideo participate in it. Projects are presented in one part in the area of Nursing and Nurse, and in another part Medical projects. It was our turn, they chose the polyclinic, we presented the project and we came out second at the national level,” he revealed.
“This has been a source of great pride” summarized the Medical Tutor of the Decentralized Service.
“This is in addition to the fact that the presence in the area has greatly exceeded our expectations, we have the polyclinic practically full every day, the people who have gone are satisfied with the service, not only because of what they tell us but because we also carried out a survey of users anonymously and it was established that they were satisfied with the hours, with the attention and with the team” commented Dr. Costa.
“We also have a Delivery service. When users consult, they can go through Administration and from there they call the pharmacy. If the patient waits at the polyclinic, the medications arrive at no cost.” projection.
“We believe that it is a polyclinic that has helped a lot with decentralization: it is more comfortable for people, it is closer to them, it decongests the central facilities of CAMCEL, people know that the care there is fast and that we solve more than 90% of the problems right there” he remarked. “In those cases where the patient requires more complex care, they are referred after the corresponding coordination” added Dr. Marcia Costa.
