In the process of registering members to form a new party, the majority of the 89 groups registered with the National Electoral Institute (INE) are very far from the goal.
Three months before the deadline established by the authority, two organizations linked to religious associations are leading the way in the basic requirements to continue to the verdict stage of the electoral authority.
In first place in this indicator is Mexico has life, whose axis is “the defense of life from its conception to its natural end”, with 159,919 affiliations, that is, almost 100,000 less than the 256,030 required; All of its registrations were via electronic application (so far no meeting has been held), a necessary option to continue in the process.
In second place, with 119,522 members, is Building Peace Societies, promoted by the promoters of former parties related to evangelical churches, such as Encuentro Social, which lost its registration in the first contest.
There, although the number of required assemblies has already been exceeded (until this week there were 215 valid ones, out of 200 necessary), it is essential to also reach the goal of registered supporters.
Meanwhile, Personas Sumando, made up of former INE officials and related to the movement called pink tideas well as former members and former legislators nominated by the opposition, reports 85 thousand members; That is, there are about 171 thousand missing to meet the requirement.
The Executive Directorate of Prerogatives and Political Parties of the INE currently reviews each of the records, not only to verify the authenticity of the voting card presented to request membership, but also in comparison to ensure that the names of the people are not repeated in any other organization, and even less so in already established parties.
Although some of the organizations presented their meeting agenda since last February, this list has practically not grown and others only a few days ago submitted their meeting program.
Thus, of the 89 who presented their intention to be a party, 82 were approved; However, only seven have held assemblies and, as mentioned, only two are close to the minimum essential number of members, which points to a notable lag.
Barring some surprise strategy, the outlook shows that the majority will be left out.
Regarding preliminary affiliations (subject to review by the INE), eight groups have registered only one member.
For example, the self-proclaimed Republican Mexico, to which the far-right Eduardo Verástegui has shown his support (a relative of the actor friend of Donald Trump is the legal representative), has 3,413 members (all via app), while the one encouraged by the former governor of Oaxaca Ulises Ruiz and the former delegation head Sandra Cuevas reports 6 thousand 3, according to the most recent official information.
The INE will review documentation of both assemblies (including the national constitutive one) and affiliates, as well as income and expenses; The verdict of the General Council of the electoral body will be known in the second quarter of next year.
