Civil defense issues early warning notice for tropical storm Melissa: “strict surveillance”

The General Staff of the Civil Defense of Cuba issued at 4:00 pm this Wednesday a Early warning notice related to Tropical Storm Melissa, which is located about 510 kilometers south of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, on the Caribbean Sea.

The note warns that Melissa has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and a central pressure of 1000 hectopascal with a course close to the west-northwest, with a translation speed of 4 kilometers per hour.

The forecast is that “it will have a slow movement over the central Caribbean Sea, south of the Greater Antilles. The oceanic and atmospheric conditions will become more favorable for its intensification, which is why it represents a potential danger for our geographic area.”

As a result of these forecasts, the Civil Defense advises maintaining “strict surveillance of the possible trajectory and development of this organization” in the eastern and central provinces.

The alert note insists on “transmitting information and permanent guidance to the population through the media and official social media profiles and using alternative means that facilitate direct contact with the population, prioritizing areas that are difficult to access.”

Finally, it points out that the use of drones and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management centers must be “coordinated with their Early Warning Points.”

Weather forecast

For tomorrow, October 23, the Institute of Meteorology predicts some rain in the eastern half of the country that is not related to Tropical Storm Melissa.

In the rest of the island there will be more isolated rainfall and temperatures will reach maximums of 33 degrees Celsius, higher in some inland locations. The winds will be from the northeast in much of the country, with speeds between 10 and 25 kilometers per hour.
