Voting on the prediction of the expansion of the Reinfo would be this Friday

Voting on the prediction of the expansion of the Reinfo would be this Friday

The pressure from the march of illegal and informal miners is taking effect.

The first play of his mobilization was to start a march this Monday with more than a thousand miners from Ica, Arequipa, Apurímac and Puno, who walked the entire Abancay Avenue to stand in front of Congress.

They brought a truck with speakers that served as their platform, with the aim of making their request heard even within the Legislature: to extend the Comprehensive Registry of Mining Formalization (Reinfo) for five years and to reverse idle mining concessions.

Peru21 confirmed it in a live broadcast.

In parallel, the former president of the Energy and Mines Commission, APP congressman, Segundo Quirozcommitted to them, that day, to present a bill to extend the Reinfo for five years; that is, he told them what they wanted to hear.

Congressman Quiroz (APP) committed to extending Reinfo for five years.

This, because another congressman allied with that union, Roberto Sanchezfrom Together for Peru (JP), has presented a bill to extend the Reinfo for only two years, and he, in the media, has declared that the extension would only be until next year.

But, for Confemin, that time is insufficient.

This was announced yesterday to Peru21 the president of that union, Máximo Franco Bequer, who announced that the mobilization will not withdraw from the Center of Lima until Congress approves the expansion of the Reinfo, despite the fact that the former Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Montero, indicated that the Government will not grant any longer validity to said registry.

Franco also pointed out that the period should be five years and that any other proposal will not allow the formalization process to be completed, described by specialists as a failure.

REQUEST DEBATE TODAY

The second move that is having an effect on illegal and informal miners is what happened this morning.

The Podemos congressman, Guido Bellido, sent a request to the Energy and Mines Commission — chaired by the congressman Victor Cutipafrom JP— so that the bills that seek to expand the Reinfo can be debated today, at 2:30 pm.

Request from Podemos congressman, Guido Bellido, to the Energy commission.

However, Bellido’s request must first be put to a vote and approved by a majority. This sum of votes will also serve to measure whether there are those necessary to approve the proposal.

Simultaneously, outside Congress, the bustling Confemin march continues this Tuesday – on the second day of protest –, pressuring with harangues, trumpets and music for legislators to approve their first and most ambitious demand: to extend the Reinfo for five more years.

However, the demand of the union of informal and illegal miners is greater: they want the reversal of the mining concessions and the repeal of Supreme Decree No. 012-2025, which left 50 thousand miners with expired and/or suspended registrations as illegal.

This afternoon, not only the congressmen who support the expansion of Reinfo will be announced, but also the parties—in which many of them are registered and plan to run for the Senate in the next elections—that support this decision.

We will be attentive to those moves.
