Puebla, Pue. Agroindustries in Puebla quantify the effects on citrus and other supplies lost crops in municipalities of the Sierra Norte, which forced them to look for products in other states so as not to stop plants, announced the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Héctor Sánchez Morales.
In an interview, he explained that after the serious effects in 33 municipalities of Puebla due to the rains generated by the Storm Jenrrythe first thing the authorities did was carry out censuses on affected families and bring help; However, now it is time to see the losses that occurred in agricultural production.
He commented that until now, the agroindustries affiliated with the National Chamber of the Processing Industry (Canacintra) are “operating normally”, but bringing raw materials from other states, especially citrus fruits for processing into some products.
“There is no doubt that production costs are rising, but agroindustries must continue to operate to the extent possible; while there is a recovery of the crop areas affected,” he noted.
He commented that they will take stock with other chambers regarding the effects they have on raw materials and, with this, have an overview of the situation that it may bring to businessmen.
He announced that producers in the Sierra Norte, where there was the greatest damage due to floods and landslides, the producers lost all their crops, some corresponding to the Day of the Dead.
He mentioned that local suppliers from the affected areas and agribusinesses must evaluate the situation, because some work under contract agriculture.
He indicated that, in some of these municipalities, some companies have small facilities, which is why they are seeing the degree of impact and whether the policies apply.
Sánchez Morales reiterated that agroindustries are not have reported work absenteeism in localities affected by the rains, contrary to what happened in the crop fields, where there was total loss.
He considered that an aid plan for affected producers should be reactivated, although it will not be of much use when the harvest was spoiled by the rains.
He hoped that next week they will have a broader overview of the damage to agribusiness and other sectors that require crops for their activities.
