Minister Lesly Shica: “We want more than 10 million Peruvians to move away from the poverty line”

He Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS) inaugurated the XIII Social Inclusion Week, a space aimed at strengthening public policies aimed at the population in situations of poverty, extreme poverty and vulnerability. 12 ministers of State and representatives of international organizations participated in the ceremony.

The minister Lesly Shica Seguil He highlighted that the objective of the sector is to accompany processes of change. “We have 10 million beneficiaries and our objective is not to distribute benefits, but to open paths, generate capabilities and human capital, connect opportunities and allow each person to develop their life project with autonomy,” he said.

He added that the challenge is to ensure that the users of social programs move towards productive development through work and entrepreneurship, with access to the market, financing and tools that allow them to escape poverty with their own efforts.

Shica stated that one of the priorities of the Government of Transition and National Reconciliation is to reduce levels of poverty and vulnerability. “I express my commitment to enhance the achievements and correct what corresponds with transparency, honesty and efficiency, fulfilling the mandate of President José Jerí,” he indicated.

Social Inclusion Week, established in 2012, brings together authorities, international organizations, academia and civil society. In this edition, the keynote conference will be given by Pablo Ibarrarán, head of the Social Protection and Health Division, with the presentation “Advances and challenges for social protection and its multidimensional approach.”

The event will address topics such as education and sports as means of social transformation, digital transformation for inclusion, measurement of multidimensional poverty and economic inclusion from MIDIS social programs, with the focus that social policy not only protects, but also generates opportunities for development.
