President Gustavo Petro announced the departure of the Vice Minister of Water and Basic Sanitation, Edward Steven Libreros. However, what caught our attention is that The news of the dismissal occurred in full broadcast of the most recent council of ministers.
During his speech, the head of state expressed his dissatisfaction with the implementation of the new cleaning tariff regime, a measure that apparently Libreros would be opposing.
“I was recently talking about our Zero Waste program and they have not released the tariff regime because the Vice Minister of Water believes more in Andesco than in our project. That is why the Cereté–Ciénaga de Oro aqueduct is not done”he indicated.
The president also pointed out to the official that he was “crossed” in which the regulations are issued, which, as expressed, would benefit recyclers and consumers.

It was in that context when the dismissal occurred: “It’s over, it’s over, brother. This Government did not come to obey the unions“said President Petro.
Edward Steven Libreros is a public administrator who graduated from the Caribbean University Corporation and a specialist in City and Territory Management from the Externado University of Colombia.
Throughout his career, he has also been a candidate for the Senate of the Republic and the Governor of Meta, as well as general coordinator of the Petro Presidente campaign in the Amazon and Orinoquía. He arrived at the Vice Ministry in September 2024, a year ago.
Libreros was not the only Government official with whom there was a ‘clash’. The president discussed with the Minister of Housing, Helga Rivas, regarding the future periods allocated for aqueduct and drinking water projects.
While the president criticized the small budget allocated to the issue, the minister questioned the priorities of the Executive.
