The state of Rio de Janeiro expects to receive a record 2 million foreign tourists this year, said this Wednesday (22) the state secretary of Tourism, Gustavo Tutuca.State of Rio estimates receiving 2 million foreign tourists

“We are experiencing the best moment in the history of tourism in Rio de Janeiro. Last year, we received more than 1.5 million international tourists. This year, until September alone, we surpassed the mark of 1.6 million international tourists”, said Tutuca.

He gave the information during the launch of the booklet Have Fun Safelywhich aims to guide Brazilian and foreign tourists on good security practices and expand awareness and prevention work. The campaign material is a trilingual folder (Portuguese, English and Spanish) with guidance on personal care, transportation, use of dating apps, emergencies and useful contacts.

The material will be distributed at airports, bus stations, hotels, Orla Rio kiosks, tourist attractions and events, in addition to being available in digital version on Setur-RJ and TurisRio’s social networks.

The Secretary of the Civil Police, Felipe Cury, said that it is important to combat criminal organizations, but the work of preventing and raising awareness among tourists is essential because it can prevent crime from occurring.

“The Special Tourism Support Delegation [Deat] has been doing work to combat gangs involving the crime of Boa Noite, Cinderela, which is what attracts the most attention. In relation to other crimes involving tourists, a large part of them is theft, such as cell phone theft, which occurs anywhere in the world. More than 80% of incidents involving tourists are non-violent crimes”, stated the secretary.
