Port of São Sebastião will be auctioned by April 2026, says minister

“This could be a large branch of port operations also in the state of São Paulo. And our idea is that we hold this auction by April 2026”, the minister told journalists, at the headquarters of B3, the São Paulo Stock Exchange.

The leasing project for area SSB01, at the Port of São Sebastião, is intended for the movement and storage of solid bulk, general cargo and containers.

The modernization of around 426 thousand square meters (m²) of operational area is planned, as well as the construction of a new berthing pier, the expansion of the yard, a new system for loading and unloading trucks and dredging to deepen the access channels.

According to the ministry, This auction is expected to generate around 5,000 jobs during construction and another 1,300 permanent jobs during operation.

The idea of ​​the ministry is for the city of São Sebastião to have a multi-purpose port. This modeling will be defined in a meeting in the coming days, in Brasília, with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas.

This morning, the minister was at B3 to participate in two auctions: the lease of RDJ07, an area located in the Port of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), won by Petrobras; and the concession for the Maritime Passenger Terminal (TMP), located in the Port of Maceió (AL), won by the Britto-Macelog II consortium.

In the afternoon, the minister must monitor the auction for the concession of waterway access to the Port of Paranaguá (PR). “Let’s do the auction [do Porto de Paranaguá]which is the first access channel auction in the country’s history. We expect investments of more than R$1 billion from this auction”, the minister told journalists.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government expects to complete a total of 60 port auctions by the end of his term. To date, said the minister, 35 of these auctions have already been held.

“In four years of our government, we will hold the equivalent of more than 60 auctions, including the Santos 10 auction [o terminal de contêineres do Porto de Santos, chamado de Tecon 10]the auction in the waterway area, the first access channel auction and, above all, operations in new port regions in Brazil”, he highlighted. “We will reach around 60 to 61 auctions, and we are strengthening not only the large ports but, above all, also decentralizing investments in ports throughout Brazil”.

According to the minister, the auction of the container terminal at the Port of Santos (Tecon 10), on the coast of São Paulo, should take place by the end of this yearalthough the notice has not yet been published. The process is currently being analyzed by Minister Antonio Anastasia, who is the rapporteur of this process at the Federal Court of Auditors.

“Next week, I must pay a visit to Minister Antonio Anastasia, who is a very qualified person and who has studied the process. Naturally, we have to respect the time of the Federal Court of Auditors, but we hope to be able to have a schedule for when the report should be presented”, said the minister. “All our effort is that this year, between December 15th and December 22nd, we can hold this Santos 10 auction here, which is very strategic”, he added.
