They occupy a van with 100 thousand cigarettes in Montecristi

Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) seized a truck loaded with 100,000 cigarettes illegally introduced into the country, during an operation carried out in the coastal area of ​​the province Montecristi.

According to a press release from the institution, the action was carried out by soldiers assigned to the Buttonillo Detachmentwho, during a tour along the Cayar highway, near Buen Hombre beach, in the Villa Vásquez municipality, located a white Ford truck, model F-150 and with provisional license plate PP489935, abandoned in the place.

During the inspection of the vehiclethe military found inside 100,000 units of Capital brand cigarettes, foreign merchandise not regulated by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).

  • According to the preliminary investigation, the truck belongs to Wandy Bladimir Reyes Peñaló, who was arrested on August 28, 2023 by agents of the National Police in the Licey al Medio municipality, Santiago province, linked to the transportation of 235,400 cigarettes of the same brand, a case for which he was brought to justice.

Both the vehicle like the confiscated merchandise remain low custody of the detachment of the ERD in coordination with the competent authorities, for the corresponding legal purposes.
