With reasoned determination, the hard limit to Mr. Trump’s authoritarian compulsion emerged: American society. The streets of thousands of cities saw more than 7 million citizens parade dissatisfied with the president, his rudeness and policies. They no longer want him at the head of their government. They had already shown their massive discontent a few weeks ago. Now they wrote it on their numerous banners with similar messages. They do not leave the slightest doubt of their growing repudiation, they do not want to accept or submit to a king. The vain Republican has, before him, the last that will surround him. It will, without a doubt, be a conflictive relationship that is clearly destined to increase in intensity and in the number of angry people. It is not only because some legislators disapprove of their already very varied decisions that dispute their constitutional powers. It is also the way in which he takes them and repeats them without consideration: neither ethical, legal nor even legitimate. The battle front is marked, with rebellion, and the formula that those today governed have found is precise, direct to the essence of discontent: they do not want imitations of kings.
