The American media, after collecting testimonies from more than twenty sources with direct knowledge of the operations, suggests that the intensified “war on drugs” promoted by Donald Trump’s administration could, in reality, be a coverage strategy. The underlying purpose, as reported, would be to justify military and political actions aimed at promoting a change of government in Venezuela.
Officials consulted by The Washington Post, who preferred to remain anonymous, indicated that the Caribbean sea passage is not a main route for the transfer of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, a substance responsible for 69% of overdose deaths in the last year. They also added that the substances that usually transit through this sea route “do not usually go to the United States either.”
The journalistic investigation denies the Trump administration’s claims regarding the alleged existence of “ships loaded with drugs” originating in Venezuela. Testimonies from local officials and residents indicate that these military interventions by Washington have claimed the lives of dozens of civilians in the waters of the Caribbean.
