The acting President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, published this Tuesday (21) a decree which extends by four years, until October 2029, the deadline for requiring georeferencing certification of rural properties that are the subject of transfer. The text was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union.
“I signed the decree because this week the deadline for the georeferencing of rural properties would expire. This gives a longer period for everyone to adapt to the law and promote georeferencing,” Alckmin told journalists.
Over the next few days, Alckmin holds the Presidency while President Lula fulfills official trip to Southeast Asia.
Georeferencing is the technical mapping process that defines the location, limits and size of a rural property through geographic coordinates. To do this, topographic survey techniques are used, such as high-precision GPS, drones or even satellite images.
The requirement for georeferencing by law guarantees the accuracy of the boundaries of each land and avoids overlaps with other properties. The procedure is necessary for transactions such as sales and donations, access to rural credit and for registration and regularization purposes.
The extension of the adaptation period was proposed by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture (MDA), due to the difficulties that rural property owners, especially small ones, reported being facing in adapting, due to the high costs and technical complexity of the certification process.
With the decision, georeferencing in the event of dismemberment, subdivision, remembrance or any situation of property transfer will now only be required from November 21, 2029. By unifying the deadline, owners of rural properties of any size will have more time to plan and implement the measure.
