The experts urged the United States to cease illegal attacks and threats, respect international law, and reaffirm its commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter.
A group of United Nations experts condemned the deployment and military attacks of the United States in the Caribbean, considering that these violate the sovereignty of Venezuela, the UN Charter, and even international law.
“These actions also violate fundamental international obligations not to intervene in internal affairs or threaten the use of force against other countries,” UN representatives warned in a statement. release released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
“These measures represent an extremely dangerous escalation, with serious implications for peace and security in the Caribbean region,” they insisted.
After the US has annihilated several “drug boats” and murdered 27 people allegedly involved in drug trafficking crimes, the United Nations reiterated that, although the accusations are true, “the use of lethal force in international waters without an adequate legal basis violates the international law of the sea and constitutes extrajudicial executions.”
In that same sense, they added that preparing covert or direct attacks against a sovereign State represents “an even more serious violation of the Charter of the United Nations.”
Likewise, the specialists affirmed that the Aragua Train, an organization classified as terrorist, is not attacking the United States; Therefore, it rejects the fact that Donald Trump’s administration is invoking the right to self-defense.
On the other hand, they cited Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the national integrity or political independence of any State and warned that attempts to promote regime change by external means violate the right to self-determination, embodied in Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ratified by the US.
“The long history of external interventions in Latin America should not be repeated,” the experts stressed. «The lessons of the past must be learned and not repeated. “The international community must remain firm in defending the rule of law, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes.”
The experts urged the United States to cease illegal attacks and threats, respect international law, and reaffirm its commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the United Nations Charter. They indicated that they are already in contact with the US Government to express their concerns.
