In compliance with article 72 of the Internal and Debating Regulations of the National Assembly (AN), the second vice president of Parliament, América Pérez, presented the balance and proposals for action of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, highlighting its role as a space for political, social, economic and legal articulation in defense of the country’s peace.
“Today with great pride we can give this first assessment of what the activities of this space have been, which is a brilliant idea, which has become the center of the political debate, the social debate, the economic debate, the legal debate, the debate that constitutes the greatest defense for peace, understanding peace as a conquest, as that element that unites the Venezuelan people,” Pérez emphasized.
The parliamentarian recalled that the Council was installed on September 16, in an act that reflected the plurality of voices calling for national unity. “But we also saw the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who has been the ideology of this National Council and who has given the AN and the deputies the responsibility of taking it to every corner of the national territory.”
Likewise, he reported that 25 State Councils and 22 in sectors of national life have been established. Pérez also points out that, among more than 30 specific work agreements, meetings and activities, the call from the President of the Legislative Branch, Jorge Rodríguez, and all the parliaments of the Caribbean to hold a meeting in Venezuela, with the aim of discussing the threats represented by the military deployment of the United States (US) in the region, is included.
He stressed that the chamber will use all the necessary instruments to ensure peace prevails in the country. For his part, the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that it is not enough to simply proclaim oneself as peaceful and peace-loving beings in Venezuelan territory, but that it is essential to prepare to defend that peace. “There is no act of bravery greater than the active defense of our condition as Venezuelans,” he expressed.
In turn, deputy Timoteo Zambrano highlighted that Parliament has responded in a timely and civilized manner to foreign attacks, always through diplomacy.
He ratified his support for Jorge Rodríguez’s call to convene the parliaments of the Caribbean and Latin America, in order to generate unanimous rejection of US threats in the region.
Finally, Zambrano warned that these intimidations are aimed at the illegal appropriation of the country’s natural resources, in addition to reiterating that the AN will use all the necessary instruments to make peace prevail.
