There are RD$8,500 million for the Ámbar Highway, still to be tendered

He Dominican government has some 8,500 million pesos to begin construction of the Amber Highwaya 32.7 kilometer highway that will facilitate road traffic between the provinces of Puerto Plata and Santiago.

This was reported this Tuesday by the President Luis Abinader by attending the first palazo of the Melia Bergantín Beach hotel, in Puerto Plata. He considered the highway as a “fundamental” infrastructure for the development of Punta Bergantín and the entire region.

He stressed that the tenderin charge of RD-Vial Trustwill be announced “in the next three weeks“.

“(The Amber Highway) Not only will it unify and practically have a metropolitan area between Santiago, Moca and Puerto Platabut for hotel tourism Puerto Plata will have two airports: Santiago and Puerto Plata“said the president.

This would be the second time that the work would be taken to a tender. The first call, made just over a year ago and proposed as a public-private alliance (APP) was deserted due to lack of bidders.

Seven weeks ago, in LA Weekly with the PressAbinader indicated that the financial part of the road initiative had to be redesigned before relaunching a new call.

Jamao Highway

Likewise, Abinader recalled the termination, more than a year ago, of the Jamao highwaywhich connects to municipality of Moca with Yasica Sabanetaand that facilitates transit from Moca and La Vega to Cabarete, where there is a lot of real estate development.

Recovery of the Sosúa beach

The president also highlighted the Government’s attempts to uproot and rescue the Sosúa beachso that it can once again be “a historic village” and “healthy.”

He tourism minister, David Colladoemphasized that the rescue of Sosúa beach will have an investment of 600 million pesos.

This is part of a total of 1,800 million pesos intended for the street improvementsidewalks, containers and tourist infrastructure.
