Voters from Itatiaia, in Rio de Janeiro, and Murici dos Portelas, in Piauí, return to the polls tomorrow (13) to choose new mayors and vice mayors, in supplementary elections. New elections were called in both municipalities due to the cancellation of the mandates of those elected in the 2020 municipal elections.
Voting at both locations will be held from 7 am to 5 pm. And those elected in these supplementary elections will remain in office until December 31, 2024.
Itatiaia
In Itatiaia, five candidates are vying for the election: Bruno Guimarães Diniz (Solidariedade), Adalberto Bisol (PDT), Irineu Nogueira (PTB), Fabíola Rodrigues (PSOL) and Silvano Rodrigues da Silva (PSC).
The mayor elected in 2020, Eduardo Guedes, won the 2020 elections, but could not take office, because the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) judged that he would be serving a third consecutive term. Since then, the city has been governed by the mayor. Currently, the interim mayor is councilor Thiago Rodrigues Moreira.
Murici
In Murici dos Portelas, two candidates are running for mayor: Auridea Santos Portela (PTB) and Francisca das Chagas Correia de Souza (PSD). Auridea Portela will contest as a subjudice, since she had her candidacy rejected by the Electoral Court and is awaiting judgment of appeal.
The mayor elected in 2020, Ana Lina de Carvalho Cunha Sales, had her warrant revoked by the TSE because she was still married to Mayor Ricardo Sales during his administration from 2016 to 2020. mayor, Raimundo Mutuca (PSD).
