Moments of tension were experienced by the inhabitants of the La Gabarra district in the municipality of Tibú, who were left in the middle of intense fighting between the Army and the ELN.
The events occurred at a time when the elections for the municipal youth councils were taking place in the area. According to the authorities, there were no victims or injuries, but there were moments of panic among the population.

Carlos Rodríguez, a resident of La Gabarra, told La FM that “it is normal for the community from the different villages to go out to market on Sundays and there was a lot of movement of people taking into account the Youth Council elections. when we began to see several armed men from the ELN patrolling in broad daylight and later the Army arrived.”
The community has indicated that unfortunately constant violent actions are being recorded by the ELN, using various strategies of war, including the launching of drones with explosives, causing victims and injuries.

The authorities have indicated that it is a retaliation by the armed group, given the latest operations carried out that have allowed the capture and confiscation of weapons and administration material.
A United Nations commission was detained at the beginning of October for several hours by armed men who belonged to the ELN guerrilla, in the Catatumbo area (Norte de Santander).
The retention of the five members of the UN commission occurred after they participated in the review of social programs carried out with peasant families, who voluntarily withdrew from illicit crops, at a time when they were moving along the road that connects the municipality of El Tarra with Ocaña.
