Minister Wayne Munroe indicated that he does not believe that his government can restrict the United States “in the measures it considers necessary to defend its national interests,” therefore they warn its citizens to be prepared.
The Minister of National Security of the Bahamas, Wayne Munroe, advised Bahamians this Monday, October 20, to “stay away from speed boats leaving Venezuela,” due to the increase in tension in the Caribbean due to the US military presence.
“I would advise Bahamians to stay away from the speed boats leaving Venezuela. “We are not going to do what the Americans are doing, but it would be better if they stayed out of it,” Munroe declared at a press conference.
The Bahamian head of National Security stated that the reality of his country and the Caribbean Community (Caricom) is that it would be impossible to oppose the United States.
“If they decided, for example, to deploy in international waters between the Bahamas and the United States, what could we do to prevent them from defending what they consider their national interest?” Munroe questioned.

In this context, the minister indicated that he does not believe that his government can restrict the United States “in the measures it considers necessary to defend its national interests.”
In his opinion, “if they decided to do so, we would have to warn our citizens to prevent them from becoming victims, perhaps, of a military attack.”
Washington has deployed at least eight warships to the region and a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, as well as more than 4,500 troops, as part of an operation in the Caribbean Sea.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, for his part, accuses the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, of leading the Cartel of the Suns, something that Caracas rejects and denounces a campaign of intimidation by the United States.
