Internet users were quick to turn the technological problem into an opportunity for ingenuity. Some memes showed people checking their balance “like archaeologists,” while others made jokes about having to “pay cash again like the old days.” Comparisons with other historical falls, such as those of WhatsApp or Instagram, also went viral.
“When you go to pay for lunch and Bancolombia decides to take the day off,” says one of the most shared memes, accompanied by the image of an ATM closed with yellow tape. Another showed the bank logo “restarting Windows,” alluding to technical problems.

Although the failure originated in Amazon Web Services, many users took out their frustration directly against the bank, filling the networks with sarcastic comments. “My salary is trapped in the cloud,” wrote one Internet user, while another said: “Neither Bancolombia nor my ex respond to my messages.”
Despite the digital chaos, humor once again demonstrated that Colombians always find a way to overcome inconveniences. Meanwhile, the banking entity assured that its technical teams are working together with AWS to restore all digital services as soon as possible.
