New ITLA center in Cotuí will benefit more than 1,500 young people each year

Nuevo centro del ITLA en Cotuí beneficiará a más de 1,500 jóvenes cada año

Cotuí, Sánchez Ramírez. – The president Luis Abinader this Sunday led the inauguration of the new center of the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) in Cotuí, a work that seeks to promote the technological and professional development of young people and adults in the Sánchez Ramírez province.

With this opening, there are now nine ITLA centers inaugurated during the current government administration. The new facility has capacity for 125 students simultaneously and a projection of training more than 1,500 people each year, with programs focused on the demands of the current labor market.

He rector of ITLA, Rafael Félizhighlighted that the percentage of employability of the institute’s graduates ranges between 93% and 95%while in Sánchez Ramírez, more than 76% of the population is of working age.

Academic alliance to expand opportunities

The center was built thanks to a alliance between ITLA, the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) and the Technological University of Cibao Oriental (UTECO)where it is located.

He Senator Rafael de los Santos explained that students will be able continue your university studies at UTECO after completing two years of technical or technological training at ITLA. “The goal is for the youth of Cotuí not only to be trained, but also to be able to obtain their university degree without leaving their province,” he said.

Available programs and academic offerings

The new center will offer programs such as Software Development Technologist, Data Science and Cybersecurity (the latter will start in 2026). In addition, it will have continuing education courses in areas such as:

  • Software and Web Development
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • Cybersecurity
  • Information Networks
  • Multimedia and Digital Production
  • Technology Applied to Business

Regional impact and modernity

The project will benefit not only the residents of Cotuibut also to the municipalities of Villa La Mata, Fantino and Cevicosas well as the municipal districts of Quita Sueño, Caballero, Comedero Arriba, Platanal, Zambrana, La Bija, Angelina, Hernando Alonso and La Cueva.

The building ITLA–Indotel Cotuí has cutting-edge laboratories and modern equipmentdesigned to encourage creativity, innovation and high-level technological training.

Since 2020, President Abinader has promoted the expansion of ITLA with the creation of centers in San Francisco de Macorís, Nagua, Bonao, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este, Monte Plata and Pedernalesin addition to the recently inaugurated one in Cotuí.

With this network of extensions, the Government seeks to bring technological education closer to all regions of the country and strengthen the skills of Dominican youth in the face of the challenges of fourth industrial revolution.
