Brazilian Sabrina Custódia once again shined in the 2025 Track Cycling World Championship, which is being held at the Rio de Janeiro Velodrome. After winning gold and the world record on the first day of the World Cup in the 1 kilometer time trial in the WC2 class (competitors with physical-motor disabilities), the Sao Paulo native from São José dos Campos took silver last Saturday (19) in the speed test in the C2 class (athletes using conventional bicycles).
“It was a very competitive final [contra a suíça Flurina Rigling, que ficou com o ouro]. I leave happy with another medal, because I know how much this sequence of results means for our team and for my career. Being on the podium again, in front of the fans, is an indescribable feeling”, declared Sabrina Custódia.
Victoria Barbosa also won silver for Brazil on Saturday, in the 1-kilometer time trial in class C1 (athletes using conventional bicycles). The Brazilian was only behind Australian Tahlia Clayton-Goodie, who also set a new world record, with a time of 1min25s366.
“It was a very physically demanding race. I worked hard for this moment and I’m proud to compete with world powers. This medal represents all the team’s effort and the support we received from the Brazilian Cycling Confederation and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee”, declared Victoria Barbosa.
With these achievements, Brazil has so far won seven medals (one gold, five silver and one bronze) in the first three days of the World Cup. In the previous edition of the event, held in 2024, also in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil finished the competition in 13th place in the medal table with two silvers, one won by Lauro Chaman and the other by Sabrina Custódia.
