'They are offensive and discrediting': Foreign Ministry rejects Trump's comments against Petro

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting the statements of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, against his Colombian counterpart Gustavo Petro. The portfolio He described the comments as offensive and like a “direct threat against national sovereignty.”

The messages referred to by the Foreign Ministry correspond to a series of trills in which the American president linked the head of state of Colombia to drug traffickingannounced the cessation of all subsidies to Colombia and threatened military actions in the country.

In this regard, the Ministry indicated that: “These accusations constitute an act of the greatest gravity and go against the dignity of the President of Colombians, who has tirelessly led and fought drug trafficking in our country, achieving, in his years of government, the largest seizures of illicit drugs ever achieved in recent history, in addition to promoting a fight aimed at comprehensively eradicating the scourge of drugs throughout the region.”

Likewise, the entity indicated that the same contain a direct threat to national sovereignty by proposing an illegal intervention in Colombian territory.

“Such approaches transgress all the norms of International Law and diplomacy, and especially the international treaties that protect the sovereignty, independence and self-determination of countries,” he added.

The Foreign Ministry indicated that it rejects the statement issued by President Trump and that it will go to all international bodies in defense of “our sovereignty as a State and the dignity of our president.”

Likewise, he emphasized that he rejects “the use of international cooperation as an instrument of interference in the internal affairs of Colombia. Without cooperation, the transnational organizations dedicated to the production and marketing of narcotics will win and the entire region will lose.”
