The strong winds that hit the state of São Paulo this weekend caused the roof of a beach tennis court in Ribeirão Preto to fall and collapse in Santos.
According to Civil Defense, the roof tent of a beach tennis court collapsed in Ribeirão Preto this Saturday (18) while the Sand Series Beach Tennis event was taking place there.
Eight people were injuredone of them seriously, with traumatic brain injury. According to the organizers of the event, the people were treated at the Unimed hospital: seven have already been released and one remained under observation on Saturday night.
“This Saturday, during the Sand Series Ribeirão Preto, which takes place at the Arena Beach Ribeirão, a strong wind knocked down the roof of the central stands. There was an evacuation coordinated by the firefighters, with no disturbance or accident as a result of the public leaving,” said the event organizers in a statement.
In Santos, a collapse occurred, also this Saturday, on Avenida Vereador Alfredo das Neves. A concrete beam from a warehouse came loose and hit a retaining wall and a snack trailer..
According to Civil Defense, three victims with minor injuries were rescued. The location was isolated for forensic examination.
