The Attorney General's Office investigates more than 40 officials for failing to comply with measures in favor of Wayúu children in La Guajira

Among those investigated are former governors and former mayors of the department, as well as former ministers and former directors of national entities.

The Attorney General’s Office initiated a disciplinary investigation against more than 40 officials, for allegedly omitting the compliance that they should have given to the constitution of a Special Mechanism for Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Policies (Mesepp) that would allow guaranteeing the rights of the boys and girls of the Wayúu people.

The investigation includes five former presidential advisors, three ministers of Health, four of Housing, two of the Environment, four of Agriculture and Rural Development, four former directors of the Administrative Department for Social Prosperity, three former directors of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, four directors of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, three national superintendents of Health.

Additionally, they are investigating three governors of La Guajira, two mayors of Maicao, two of Manaure, two of Riohacha and two of the municipality of Uribia, whose identity is not yet known.

The Public Ministry indicated that, apparently, the measure ordered by the Constitutional Court to overcome the unconstitutional state of things had not been carried out, which prevented the beneficiary population from ensuring access to water, food, health, equality and cultural diversity.

The officials linked to the file are those who have been in charge of the entities since 2022, the date on which the ruling was issued by the High Court, until those who currently occupy them, since after five years there have been no known efforts to comply with them.

The disciplinary action initiated by the Public Ministry seeks to determine the occurrence or not of the conduct by the officials, for which it decreed the taking of evidence.
