Santo Domingo.- Students of the University Autonomous of Saint Dominic (UASD) denounced this Saturday the low presence of agents of security in the university campusafter what happened last Thursday, when a shooting occurred at the headquarters, resulting in one person dead and two in a delicate state of health so far.
After a tour carried out by a team of newspaper The Dayit was possible to verify the scarce presence of agents at the doors, security checkpoints and throughout the headquarters, where in the morning hours only four officers were seen in a territory that includes 950,000 square meters. This situation has generated fear and insecurity among some university students.
«The truth is I feel insecure, because if that happened with them, it could happen with me. Even if I’m not looking for trouble, someone else could be, and since there’s not as much security, I feel in danger.or,” he said Alan Reyesstudent of Industrial Psychology.
In that sense, Melissa Rivasa young woman in her first semester of studying dentistry at the UASD, narrated that, although some family members had told her that these types of situations were common during her time of study, she did not expect to experience them today as well.
«I don’t feel very calm about what happened. My family had told me that this was normal, but I didn’t believe it. I’m a little afraid that it will happen again.», expressed Rivas.
People consulted by El Día commented that the lack of security on campus leaves both students, teachers and collaborators to their fate, since there is no access register at the main doors that requires identification, such as an ID or student ID, which allows anyone to move freely without being detained.
«I come today and, really, I haven’t seen any kind of patrol. I don’t see safety when getting into a vehicle with my family members.», commented a student.
Icel Olivoa mother that every Saturday takes his two children of 6 and 12 years to receive taekwondo classes at the Tony Barreiro Sports Center of the UASD, expressed that the situation left her in shocksince an incident of that magnitude not only endangers the students, but also the hundreds of children who practice physical activities at this educational center.
«Look, the first thing was that when I saw the videos during the week I thought: “Wow! Imagine that had happened on a weekend, when I have to go there!” Right now there is a tournament and many children are presents”, he highlighted.
