LIMA, Peru – A motorcyclist and his vehicle fell into a deep hole after the pavement suddenly collapsed in the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado.
The unusual accident occurred this Thursday during the day at the intersection of Zapata and Paseo. A video broadcast on social networks shows the moment when the rescuers were trying to extract the motorcycle from the hole.
Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle was rescued by neighbors and passersby in the area before firefighters and paramedics from the SIUM arrived.
“A hole opened in the middle of the road and a man sank with his motorcycle on the sidewalk of a building. According to witnesses, the floor suddenly collapsed and the driver fell with his motorcycle and everything into the hole,” he reported. on Facebook a neighbor of the place identified as Yanely Paredes.
At the time of the rescue, the motorcyclist was conscious, although the independent sources that reported the incident did not detail whether he suffered any injuries as a result of the fall.
Accidents in Cuba
Between January and August 2025, 502 people died in traffic accidents in Cuba, according to data released by the National Road Safety Commission and replicated by official media. Motorcycles and mopeds continue to be protagonists in road accidents: they are involved in 52% of accidents, causing 32% of deaths and 42% of injuries. On average, the “indiscipline” of its drivers causes 11 accidents daily, with at least seven injuries and one death every six days.
Collisions between vehicles are the most lethal type of accident, responsible for 36% of fatalities. Provinces such as Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba, Granma and Artemisa lead the statistics, with increases of more than a third compared to the previous year.
