Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry requested the imposition of preventive detention as a measure of coercion against Alexander Jiménez Garban (Alex), accused of attempted murder and illegal use of a firearm, after staging a violent incident at the headquarters of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) the afternoon of last Thursday, October 16.
According to the investigations of the Department of Crimes and Offenses against the Person of the National Districtthe accused would have tried to take the life of Juan Manuel Méndez, Lyedgers Tameydshi Encarnación Peña and Miguel Ángel Claudio Chacónafter an altercation that occurred in front of the office where the latter, a member of the university’s security staff, worked.
According to the file, Jiménez Garban arrived at the scene aboard a vehicle gray Mazdaand after a first confrontation he retired momentarily. However, he was intercepted minutes later around the university commissary by Méndez, Encarnación Peña and Omar Reyes Angomaswho tried to prevent the aggression from continuing.
During the confrontation, the accused made death threats and fired several shots, hitting Juan Manuel Mendez on the left forearm, now Lyedgers Tameydshi Encarnación Peñawho suffered thoracoabdominal injuries, Hypovolemic shock secondary to internal bleeding, right hemothorax, pneumoperitoneum and post-cardiac arrest syndromeas stated in Legal Medical Certificate No. 65732.

For its part, Miguel Ángel Claudio Chacón and Omar Reyes Angomas They were unharmed.
After the shots, Jiménez Garban fled the scene aboard his vehicle to the door number 2 from the university, where he abandoned the car and the firearm, scaled a wall and moved towards the vicinity of a nearby supermarket. There it was retained by students and later delivered to members of the university security and of the National Police.
In the procedure, a Kral Magnum brand shotgun, 12 gauge, serial no. 13-K8404black, which he allegedly carried illegally. The arrest warrant was issued on October 17, 2025.
The authorities indicated that the origin of the conflict would be linked to a prior warning carried out on the accused on October 15, to which he reacted violently, triggering the armed attack that occurred the following day.
The Public Ministry described the events as a violation of the articles 2, 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Coderelating to attempted murder, and to the articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16 about him Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
Likewise, the accusing body requested preventive detention as a measure of coercion, alleging that it is necessary to guarantee the presence of the accused during the judicial process and avoid risks of flightdue to the seriousness of the crimes charged.
The request is supported by testimonial evidence, medical certifications, the document of delivery of the weapon and the arrest recordwhich strengthen the accusation presented before the competent court of the National District.
