News Colombia.
An incident of workplace violence that occurred in Pereira has unleashed a wave of indignation throughout the country. In a video that is widely circulating on social networks, a Spanish citizen, owner of an automotive workshop, is seen insulting and throwing water at one of his employees, an older man who remains silent while receiving the attack. The recording, which quickly went viral, has been described by thousands of users as an unacceptable display of humiliation and abuse of power.

The images provoked a strong public reaction and led the Ministry of Labor to make an immediate statement. The minister expressed his categorical rejection through his account on X, where he wrote: “This is not only a violation of labor standards, it is a crime that deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law. We will act immediately”. His words were accompanied by a call to the competent authorities to investigate the case and guarantee justice for the victim.

According to local sources, the incident occurred inside the workshop owned by the Spanish citizen, who apparently has been living in Colombia for several years. Witnesses indicated that it was not the first time that the man had aggressive behavior with his workers, although it had never been recorded on video before. The victim, visibly affected, has not yet made public statements.
The Ministry of Labor announced that inspections and sanctioning processes are already underway against the establishment, and that the case could be referred to the Attorney General’s Office due to possible physical and psychological violence in the work environment. In addition, the immigration status of the aggressor is evaluated, who could face additional administrative sanctions if recidivism or abuse of a dominant position is demonstrated.
For his part, President Gustavo Petro rejected the fact: «This is the traditional world of the hidalgo. He believes he has servants, he believes the worker belongs to him. This is not a businessman, he is a slaver. “It denies the worker’s right to dignity.”

Trade union organizations and human rights groups also spoke out, calling for exemplary measures to prevent this type of attacks from being repeated. “No worker should be mistreated or humiliated, regardless of their age, nationality or economic condition,” they said in a statement.
The case has reopened the debate about dignity at work and respect for labor rights in Colombia. While the investigation progresses, the video continues to generate reactions of indignation and solidarity with the victim, who has become a symbol of the fight against workplace violence and abuse of power in the workplace.
